There are a number of basic techniques that will equip you with the skills to develop your felt making. Once you have the basics, you can explore, expand and combine techniques to create all sorts of different and wonderful items. The workshops/ techniques can be done in any order. Needle felting is slightly different in that it is a 'dry' technique. It can be used to create flat images and 3d shapes; but it is also great for adding detail to your 'wet' felted products.

Although workshops are specific to technique, they are flexible and the aim is to please. If you have some prior experience and would like to come on a specific date but do something different, this is possible. Please discuss when booking.

Beginners

Basic Felt making

Learn the basics of felt making. This workshop gives you the skills to make a flat piece of felt, with pattern and texture. Includes pre-felt techniques and trapping of other fibres.

February 28th

Cobweb Felt Scarf

Light and airy - Spend the morning getting acquainted with cobweb felt techniques, followed by making your very own scarf

Seamless Structures

Bag, bowl/vessel or Beret/Hat

Using a resist technique, create a small bag, hollow vessel, or beret.

April 25th

Felt flowers

Using layering and resist techniques, create multi layered flowers that can be made into a brooch or ornament.

Nuno Felt Scarf

Combining felt and fabric. Spend the morning experimenting with different fabrics and nuno techniques to gain experience and knowledge of the subsequent effects . In the afternoon dye your own silk scarf prior to felting. (Silk scarf included in price.)

June 27th

Colour and Texture in Felt

Explore colour and texture with this sampling session, using techniques to create relief and texture, followed by dyeing.

Needlefelt Picture

Wet and dry techniques combined. Create a picture using needlefelt (dry technique), and finish with wet felting.

Inlay, Mosaic and Weaving techniques

Using pre-felts, add new felting techniques to your creative bank. Includes some hand sewing. Go home with various samples.

Felting Day

Come and enjoy a days felting with like minded people - for the beginner and more experienced alike.

Create baubles, small gifts or something for yourself

All workshops, although aimed primarily at the beginner; more experienced felters are also very welcome and are able to follow their own direction/ ideas with guidance if required.

Refreshments and materials are included in the price.

You will need to bring with you an old bath towel. If you are sensitive to soap or wool, a pair of rubber gloves, and if you have one, a waterproof apron. Please bring a packed lunch, unless you wish to go out to eat. Town is very close by.

Equipment and materials are available to buy so you can continue at home. Felt making. can be very contagious!
